End Of Semester One

The last few weeks at school have been go, go, go. The whole semester has been very busy and the last few weeks have been no exception.

Earlier in the year we had visited a local research farm where we learnt about growing crops, controlling insect pests and conducting soil testing. We planted seeds (corn, water melon and cucumber) on our earlier visit. Last week we visited again to pick the crops. The corn was high and the students were scattered throughout the crop. It sounded as if the corn was giggling, chattering and shaking with excitement. The picking was followed by sorting and grading the crop. Then we all shared in a taste testing – yum. Taking some of the veggies home to our families was a real pleasure.

A sample of our crops has been entered in the local agricultural show for judging.  We are proud of our efforts and had a great deal of enjoyment gaining an insight into the farming practices and challenges of our area. Thank you to our farming tutors.

This week we are looking forward to our school sports festival, lots of running, long jump and high jump. Australia is a sporting nation and our school loves sport. Every year we are proud to see students from our school earn a place on regional and state teams for a variety of sports.

This week we are finishing up our QuadBlogging challenge, it has been a wonderful learning experience.

We will top such a successful semester off with a class party before a well earned holiday.
