School Leaders 2015

It’s that time of the year again when we are selecting our school leaders. This year for the first time year 6 students in Queensland are the oldest students in primary school as year seven is now incorporated into high school.

Year 6 students are busy writing an application paragraph that will determine who is selected for an interview, and then who becomes a School Captain candidate. Speeches follow and then of course the all important voting takes place.

Congratulations to all those students who are putting themselves forward for a leadership position in the school, I wish you all the best in your efforts, you are already leaders in my book.

Welcome Back

Wow can you believe the summer break is over. Students have been enjoying the last few days of their holidays before the new school year starts. Teachers have had three days back at school getting an exciting year ahead off to a well prepared start. I can’t wait to tell you about the many things we will be doing away from the classroom. But more of that in another post.

Here’s something for you to think about before school starts. Just what is it that makes you, you? That is our Getting Acquainted activity this year. Here’s how you do it:

1. Start with a paper lunch bag, a plain white or brown one will do. Make sure it has no advertising or text printed on it. We are going to add our own artwork to it.

2. Find three (3) items that you can place in the bag. Make sure the items reflect three different aspects of your character. If an item is too big for the lunch bag (a pet) or too precious (grandma) then take a photograph and place the photo into the bag.

3. Decorate your bag with colour and drawings that tell even more about you.

4. Display your bag at school and of course be ready to explain how your items really reflect who you are.

Don’t worry I will go first on Tuesday. Can you guess what might be in and on my bag?

Holidays

What a fantastic year we have had in Year 5/6T, 2013. Today is the last day of the school year and we now begin our summer holiday break. Thank you to all my hard working students for being such a great class. For those who are leaving our school district I wish you all the best as you journey to your new home. To those returning in late January of the new year I can’t wait to hear all about your fun, adventures and holidays. Next year we will be adding lots more to our blog so … watch this space.

Fete Success

Hi everyone. What a great day the school fete was and it was so wonderful to see all of you. I caught up with lots of past students and parents. One parent I was pleased to catch up with was telling me about her child who was in my class in years 1,2 and 3. The student is now in the final year of High School. Learning was not always easy for this child but with effort the improvements came.

Now this student is looking forward to a gap year and then onto university to a course with an entrance requirement of  OP 3. The student is on target to achieve this Overall Positioning rating by the end of the year.

My point in telling you this! Great things happen through hard work. Now where have I heard that before?

With many items sold out, our stall at the fete was a success, so thank you all for your help and support.

Holiday Update 2

Hi Year 56T and Miss M, hope you are having a great time. If you have checked out our blog map you will see we have had a visitor from England. It is warm there as they are in their summer, while we are  in the middle of winter, not that it ever gets too cold in the north of Queensland. How is your science going? What causes Earth to experience different seasons and why is England warm while we are cold?

Thank you for your messages and to Mr R – May the force be with you.

I will see you all at the fete. Don’t forget to donate a small part of your day to help on our stall to help Miss M and I.

I Can’t Believe It!

Can you believe it at long last I am taking long service leave. I’m sorry to say Year 5/6T I will not see you for 8 weeks, can you believe it 8 whole weeks of sleeping in each morning! Oops sorry guys I forgot you still have to get up and go to school each day. Don’t be too sad though as you will be getting a really cool new teacher for 8 weeks, Miss M.  She is really looking forward to meeting and working with all of you and I know you will impress her very much.

I will keep in touch through the blog sending you photos and messages from all over Queensland and some other parts of Australia.

Have fun and see you in 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 that’s 8, yes 8, fantastic 8, amazing 8 full weeks.

All my best

Ms T
