Next week is NAPLAN testing week. We have been looking at previous years test papers.
The tips below are strategies for reading comprehension:
Reading
- read the title, the text and look at the images
- read the question
- read the multiple choice answers
- scan the text for the answer – it may be on the line, between the lines or beyond the lines
- find the key word in the question and look for it in a paragraph or sentence in the text then carefully read while thinking about the question
- select the answer that best matches the question
Remember there are usually 4 possible responses to choose from in multiple choice questions. One response is a distractor – it may even be off topic. One response is obviously wrong, one is nearly right and then there is the right answer.
Get a restful nights sleep before the test day, have a good breakfast on the morning of the test and bring a small snack that you can nibble on while you work. Make sure it is a snack that will not distract others nearby.
